3. DESCRIPTION
A. A51 VHF NAV / COMM transceiver (Figure 4)
A51 VHF NAV COMM transceiver is designed for the reception of navigation and guidance signals within a frequency range from 108.00 to 117.95 MHz and reception of glideslope signals within a frequency range from 329.15 to 335.00 MHz.
The front panel includes all the operation and display controls.
The right side of the front panel controls the functions of the VHF navigation system. It consists of :
- the NAV digital display subdivided in two portions "USE" and "STBY/RAD". The "USE" portion displays the frequency being used and the "STBY/RAD" portion displays the radial corresponding to the selected beacon, or a standby frequency. The radial is displayed by pulling the inner frequency selector knob.
A photocell automatically controls the brightness of the display.
- the inner/outer frequency selector knobs
When the inner frequency selector knob is in the IN position, the inner/outer frequency selector knobs allow selection of the desired operation frequency in the "STBY/RAD" portion. When the the inner frequency selector knob is in the OUT position, the inner/outer frequency selector knobs allow selection of the desired operation frequency in the "USE" portion.
- the NAV frequency transfer button "4-*"
When the inner frequency selector knob is in the IN position, the NAV frequency transfer button is used to move the frequency in the "STBY/RAD" portion to the "USE" portion and vice versa. When the inner frequency selector knob is in the OUT position, depressing the NAV frequency transfer button causes the frequency in the "USE" portion to be transferred into a blind storage and the last standby frequency (in a blind storage) is then displayed in the "USE" portion.
