NAV 1 INSTALLATION
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL
The VOR is a short- and middle-range navigation aid. It enables the pilot to locate the position of his aircraft with regard to a half-line (radial) crossing the VOR station or also to determine the particular radial crossing the aircraft position.
In ILS operation (landing aid), the system allows a continuous guidance in azimuth (LOC) and in elevation (GLIDE slope approach plane).
The optional NAV 1 installation consists of :
- the A78 COMM./VOR-ILS/GPS transceiver,
- the E33 VOR/LOC antenna,
- the E34 GS (GLIDE) antenna,
- the A59 VOR signal separator (option),
- the A60 GS signal separator (option).
The installation uses M73 horizontal situation indicator (HSI) which is a component of the heading system -refer to 34-21-00.
The installation uses the M6 advisory panel — refer to 31-50-00.
With relation to the options installed on the aircraft, NAV 1 installation receives and/or sends signals to :
- the A50 audio control panel - refer to 23-11-00,
- the Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) — refer to 34-55-00,
- the Radio Magnetic Indicator (RMI) - refer to 34-25-00,
- the stormscope system - refer to 34-41-00,
- the transponder (GTX 327) - refer to 34-53-00,
- the multifunction display - refer to 34-62-00,
- the fuel flow totalizer - refer to 73-30-00,
- the autopilot system - refer to 22-12-00.

For the description of the GPS function of the A78 COMM./VOR-ILS/GPS transceiver, refer to 37-57-00. Without "Ground Clearance"
The installation is electrically supplied by "BUS 1" bar.
With "Ground Clearance"
The installation is electrically supplied by "BUS 1" bar or by the battery.

3. DESCRIPTION
A. A78 COMM.NOR-ILS/GPS transceiver (Figure 3)
The A78 COMM./VOR-ILS/GPS transceiver is designed for the reception of navigation and guidance signals within a frequency range from 108.00 to 117.95 MHz and reception of GS signals within a frequency range from 329.15 to 335.00 MHz. It provides M73 horizontal situation indicator (HSI) with NAV/ILS information.
