DME INSTALLATION
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL (Figure 1)
The DME is a short- and middle-range radio-navigation aid. It determines the slant-range distance by measuring the time required for the signal to reach the ground transmitter and return back to the aircraft. It also provides the aircraft ground speed and the time-to-station.
The optional DME installation consists of :
- an A72 DME interrogator,
- an E37 DME antenna.
A desensitization line connects the optional transponder to the DME interrogator - refer to 34-53-00. The system sends an audio signal to A50 audio control box - refer to 23-11-00.
