GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS)
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL
The GPS is a satellite-based radionavigation system which enables an aircraft to be located anywhere (tridimensional positioning : latitude, longitude and altitude).
The system consists of :
- the A78 COMM.NOR-ILS/GPS transceiver GNS 430
- the E48 GPS antenna GA 56
The system also uses :
- the M81 (GI 106A) course deviation indicator - refer to 34-51-00,
- or the M73 Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) - refer to 34-21-00,
- the M6 advisory panel - refer to 31-50-00.
According to the installed options, the system receives and/ or sends information to :
- the GPS 2 (GNS 430) - refer to 34-57-00,
- the autopilot system - refer to 22-12-00,
- the fuel flow system - refer to 73-30-00.
The A78 COMM./VOR-ILS/GPS transceiver receives altitude information from the encoding altimeter - refer to 34-11-00.
