3. DESCRIPTION
A. A55 ADF receiver (Figure 4)
A55 ADF receiver is destined to receive signals within a frequency range from 200 KHz to 1799 KHz in 1-KHz increments. It determines the ground station bearing information which is then forwarded to the indicators for information display.
A55 ADF receiver consists of a parallelepipedic rectangular box.
The rear section of the box features an antenna receptacle and a receptacle composed of a printed board plate.
The front panel of A55 ADF receiver consists of :
- a display for frequency, mode and time information visualisation. The display brightness is automatically controlled by a photocell.
The display is divided in two windows.
The frequency in use is displayed in the L.H. window.
The R.H window displays :
a standby frequency,
or the time elapsed since the equipment energization ("FLT" function selected),
or the time elapsed or remaining since the "ET" function initialization ("ET" function selected).
- the following controls :
the "ADF" pushbutton which determines the receiver function mode, Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) mode or antenna (ANT) mode,
the Beat Frequency Oscillator "BFO" pushbutton which permits the identification of unmodulated stations which use an interrupted carrier (A1) for identification purposes,
the "FRQ" or "FRQ/<->", pushbutton,
The receiver is at all times tuned to the frequency displayed in the L.H. window. The pushbutton enables the frequency previously selected in the R.N. window to be transferred into the L.H. window and vice-versa.
the "ET/FLT" pushbutton makes it possible to display in the R.H. window one of the two timer functions :
- the "FLT" (Flight Timer) function which measures the flight duration. The duration measurement starts as soon as equipment energization,
- the "ET" (Elapsed Time) function is a programmable countdown timer.
? the "SET/RST" button enables the pilot to program the countdown time of "ET" function, . the "OFF/VOL" control switch ensuring the ON/OFF function and audio volume adjustment,
