- a set of pushbuttons for equipment energization and selection of the different operating modes : . "OFF" pushbutton : The transponder is de-energized.
. "STBY" pushbutton : A56 transponder is energized but is inhibited from replying to any ground interrogation.
AHAG
Validity : GTX 327 34 53 00 (Bu, Page 1 NOV 01

. "ON" pushbutton : During normal operation, the transponder retransmits the identification
code in the display window to ground interrogations.
. "ALT" pushbutton : The transponder retransmits the identification code and the flight level
(mode C) to ground interrogations.
- an "IDENT" pushbutton used to transmit a special identification pulse to help the radar operator.
- a "VFR" pushbutton used to recall a pre-programmed identification code into the transponder memory.
- eight pushbuttons identified from "0" to "7" are provided either to separately select each of the four digits of the identification code or to enter figures from 0 to 7 to program the time measure function in counting-down mode.
- a "FUNC" pushbutton used to modify the modes displayed on the R.H. section of the display. Main displayed data are flight level, flight time and time measure function (up-down counter).
- a "START/STOP" pushbutton used to start or stop the up-down counter of time measure function.
- a "CRSR" pushbutton used to activate/de-activate the cursor in order to select starting time of time measure function in counting-down mode. It is also used to cancel the current selection of the identification code.
- a "CLR" pushbutton is used to reset the up-down counter of the time measure function. It is also used during identification code selection to cancel the latest activation of one of the pushbuttons and return to the code that was valid before the pushbutton was activated.
- "8" and "9" pushbuttons are provided either to adjust the display contrast and brightness (configuration mode) or to enter 8 and 9 figures to select the starting time of time measure function in counting-down mode.
A56 transponder receives a coded interrogation transmitted by the air traffic control ground radar station on a 1030-MHz carrier. A56 transponder decodes and processes the interrogations and sends a coded response on a 1090-MHz carrier.
A56 transponder is electrically supplied by "BUS 1" and/or "BUS 2" bars via a diode and a fuse respectively. The transponder is protected by CB 90 "XPDR" circuit breaker.
A56 transponder is mounted on radio rack or, in variant on R.H. panel strip. B. E36 transponder antenna
The transponder antenna allows signal reception and transmission within the L band (frequency within 950 and 1260 MHz).
The transponder antenna is mounted under the fuselage on the cowling under hull.
