NAV 1 INSTALLATION
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL (Figures 1 and 1A)
The VOR is a short- and middle-range navigation aid. It enables the pilot to locate the position of his aircraft with regard to a half-line (radial) crossing the VOR station or also to determine the particular radial crossing the aircraft position.
In ILS operation (landing aid), the system allows a continuous guidance in azimuth (LOC) and in elevation (GLIDE slope approach plane).
The optional system consists of the following elements :
- a VHF NAV / COMM transceiver,
- a VOR signal separator (option),
- a GS signal separator (option),
- a VOR / LOC antenna,

- a course deviation indicator (CDI) (option).
Aircraft with HSI option
In this case, the CDI is not installed and the system uses the horizontal situation indicator of the heading reference system as indicator - refer to 34-21-00.
• Aircraft with HSI interfaced with GPS system
In this case, the VHF NAV / COMM transceiver sends VOR / LOC and GS data through a switching unit (relay) to the HSI, using a NAV 1 / GPS switch annunciator - refer to 34-57-00.

The NAV 1 installation is connected with :
- the audio control box (option) - refer to 23-11-00,
- the DME installation (option) - refer to 34-55-00,
- the radio magnetic indication system (option) - refer to 34-25-00.
The VHF NAV/ COMM transceiver combines, in a single unit, a VHF COM transceiver and a 200-channel VHF VOR / LOC receiver with a 40-channel glideslope receiver / converter option.
The CDI can include an UP / DOWN glideslope needle with an associated warning flag. The signal separator (if installed) permits operation of two receivers from one antenna. The system is electrically supplied by "BUS 1" bar via the "COM / NAV 1" circuit breaker.
