The slaving accessory consists of :
- a deviation indicator (millivoitmeter) to display the slaving error between the flux valve and the slaved directional gyro,
- a "SLAVE-FREE" inverter for the selection of the heading reference system operating mode ("slaved gyro" mode and "free gyro" mode),
- a two-position (CW/CCW) switch for manual adjustment of the directional heading when the "FREE" mode is selected,
- two potentiometers for magnetic compensation of the flux valve.
One of the potentiometers performs the correction along the NORTH/SOUTH axis and the other potentiometer along the EAST/WEST axis.
The slaving accessory is electrically supplied by the slaved directional gyro.
The slaving accessory is installed on the R.H. instrument panel.
4. OPERATION
NOTE : For equipment operation and maintenance, refer to the supplier's Maintenance Manual.
A. Heading reference system in "slaved gyro" mode
When the heading reference system is energized, the heading signal provided by the slaved directional gyro is quickly and automatically aligned with the magnetic direction reference detected by the flux valve. This initial alignment occurs at a rate of 14 degrees/second. After this alignment sequence, a slow slaving function, at a rate of 2.5 degrees/minute is initiated to keep the true magnetic heading and the heading of the output synchro transmitter aligned.
On the slaved directional gyro, the malfunction relay reports to the warning flag condition for :
- loss of power,
- failure of gyro motor to maintain spin.
B. Heading reference system in "free gyro" mode
With the "SLAVE-FREE" inverter set to "FREE" position, the system operates in the "free gyro" mode. The magnetic slaving loop of the slaved directional gyro is disengaged. The pilot manually cancels the deviation indicated by the slaving accessory deviation pointer using the "CW-CCW" switch.
