The symbol generator continuously monitors the information it receives and reports any discrepancies detected. It also displays different maintenance pages to ease configuration and trouble-shooting procedures.
Upon its introduction into service, the symbol generator is configured in relation to the equipment items installed on the aircraft (Equipment configuration). These data are stored in the symbol generator and the rack-integrated A113 configuration module.
The symbol generator cooling is ensured by B19 fan.
The symbol generator is electrically supplied by "BUS 1" bar via the contacts of K100 power relay and protected by CB131 "EHSI" circuit breaker.
The 26-volt/400-Hz AC power supply is provided by A100 static inverter via the PL100 panel into which protection fuse "SG 465-26V" is mounted.
The symbol generator is mounted on the L.H. side in the rear fuselage, behind C6 frame.
C. PL100 panel
The PL100 panel ensures protection and distribution of the 115-volt/400-Hz and 26-volt/400-Hz AC power supplies to the different systems. It also allows certain interconnections between the different items constituting the installation.
The PL100 panel consists of a support including relays, fuses and R82 equipped resistor plate. The PL100 panel consists of :
- K103 relay which transmits a validity signal from A101 slaved directional gyro to A82 flight computer. The relay control signal is provided by A104 symbol generator.
- K105 and K106 relays make it possible by activating the "NAV 1 - HOLD - NAV 2" DME button (located on the L.H. instrument panel) to display the DME information in relation to the NAV system selected.
- K108 relay provides an automatic cutoff of the power supply system during engine starting sequence (via K100 relay). The relay control signal is provided by the magneto selector of the aircraft.
- K100 relay provides, via its contacts, the power supply to the system. The "EFIS MASTER" switch controls the energization of K100 relay.
- K109 relay (if installed).
When the GPS source is selected on the EFIS system, K109 relay, controlled by A104 symbol generator, makes it possible to control the operation of the autopilot system during a GPS-based approach (autopilot responds faster to course deviations).
- The R82 equipped resistor plate consists of two resistors which provide an appropriate level "GS flag" signal to A82 flight computer. The vertical deviation flag signal is sent to R82 equipped resistor plate by A104 symbol generator.
