3. DESCRIPTION
A. A101 slaved directional gyro
The slaved directional gyro provides the heading reference system with gyro-stabilization. It includes the slaving circuitry necessary for system operation.
It is composed of :
- a gyroscopic assembly housed into a cylindrical case,
- an electronic assembly housed into a metallic unit on which the gyroscopic assembly is secured. It ensures the slaving of the system and also generates DC/AC currents for the flux valve and the slaving accessory.
The slaved directional gyro combines the short term directional information from its gyro with the long term
heading information from the flux valve, to provide analog (synchro) heading data for other components.
The slaved directional gyro has two XYZ heading transmitters (synchro) which require a 26-VAC/400-Hz rotor excitation. XYZ heading transmitter No. 1 provides A104 symbol generator of the EFIS system with the heading information. XYZ heading transmitter No. 2 provides heading information to RMI indicator.
A monitoring circuit, included into the slaved directional gyro, is used to operate a malfunction relay. The closing of the relay contacts is used as a valid condition of the system operation.
The slaved directional gyro operates on 115 Volts/400 Hz single phase and is electrically supplied by the EFIS system A100 static inverter via the PL100 panel and protected by "115 VAC" fuse (F125) located in PL100 panel.
The 26-VAC/400-Hz power supply for XYZ heading transmitters rotor excitation is provided by the EFIS system A100 static inverter via the PL100 panel and protected by "RM I 26V" fuse (F126) and "SG 465 26V" fuse (F127) located in PL100 panel.
The slaved directional gyro is installed in the rear fuselage on the L.H. side behind C6 frame.
B. A71 flux valve
The flux valve senses the horizontal direction of the earth's magnetic field and transmits the information to the slaved directional gyro.
It has the shape of a half-spherical case with a support plate for assembly attachment on the aircraft structure.
The flux valve houses a magnetic system composed of three coils positioned at 120° and a primary coil (excitation).
The dampening of the system is ensured by a fluid with appropriate viscosity.
The excitation voltage necessary for flux valve operation is provided by A101 slaved directional gyro. The flux valve is mounted in the R.H. wingtip upper surface.
C. M70 slaving accessory
The slaving accessory enables the pilot to select the operation mode of the heading reference system. It is composed of a front panel equipped with the controls and a body including two electrical connectors. The plastic cover of the body has two orifices providing access to two adjustment potentiometers.
