It is composed of : - a gyroscopic assembly housed into a cylindrical case, - an electronic assembly housed into a metallic unit on which the gyroscopic assembly is secured. It ensures the slaving of the system and also generates DC/AC currents for the HSI (Horizontal Situation Indicator), the flux valve and the slaving accessory. The system uses the deviation signals generated by the HSI to generate the commands so as to permanently align directional heading data (HSI) with the magnetic heading reference provided by the flux valve. The slaved directional gyro is electrically supplied by "BUS 2" bar via the "HSI" circuit breaker. The slaved directional gyro is located behind frame C6 on the L.H. side. B. A71 flux valve The flux valve senses the horizontal direction of the earth's magnetic field and transmits the information to the Horizontal Situation Indicator. It has the shape of a half-spherical case with a support plate for assembly attachment on the aircraft structure. The flux valve houses a magnetic system composed of three coils positioned at 120° and a primary bearing (excitation). The dampening of the system is ensured by a fluid with appropriate viscosity. The excitation voltage necessary for flux valve operation is supplied by the slaved directional gyro. The flux valve is mounted in the R.N. wingtip, on the upper face. It can be reached through access door 622. C. M70 slaving accessory The slaving accessory enables the pilot to select the operation mode of the system. It is composed of a front panel equipped with the controls and a body including two electrical connectors. The plastic cover of the body has two ports providing access to two adjustment potentiometers. The slaving accessory includes : - a deviation indicator (millivoltmeter) to display the deviation between the directional information (HSI) and the magnetic reference point (flux valve), - a "SLAVE-FREE" inverter for the selection of the system operating mode ("slaved gyro" mode and "free gyro" mode), - a two-position (CW / CCW) switch for manual adjustment of the directional heading when the "FREE" mode is selected, - two potentiometers for magnetic compensation of the flux valve. One of the potentiometers performs the correction along the NORTH / SOUTH axis and the other potentiometer along the EAST / WEST axis. The slaving accessory is installed on the R.H. instrument panel or, as an alternative, on the L.H. strip or upper R.H. portion of L.H. instrument panel. D.
