FOOTSTEP DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION 1. GENERAL The footstep, composed of a tube, a mounting plate and a step, is secured to frame C4 by four screws. The step is covered with an anti-skid coating. Each aircraft is equipped with a L.H. footstep and a R.H. footstep. Information specific to L.H. installation are given in square brackets. 1. REMOVAL OF THE FOOTSTEP (Figure 401) A. Tools and consumable materials None B. Procedure 1) Remove the rear cowling under hull 218A. 2) Remove footstep fairing 2111 R [2111 L]. 3) Manually actuate control cable (15) to unlock footstep (20) [21]. 4) Remove and discard cotter pin (12). Remove washers (19) and clevis pin (18). 5) Clear cable end (17) from cam (10). 6) Remove return spring (9) from cam (10). 7) Remove and discard nut (24). Remove washer (25). 8) Hold footstep (20) [21] and remove bolt (6) and washer (5). 9) Remove footstep (20) [21]. 10) If necessary, disassemble footstep (20) [21]. a) Remove spacer (8) from footstep (20) [21], retain spacers (11) and cam (10). b) Remove pin (22) and compression spring (23) from footstep (20) [21]. 11) If necessary, remove support (3) [4]. a) Loosen and fully unscrew nuts (14). b) Remove cable stop stiffener (16). c) Clear control cable (15) from support (3) [4]. d) Remove and discard nuts (26). Remove washers (27) and bolts (28). e) Hold support (3) [4] and remove bolts (2) and washers (1). f) Remove support (3) [4]. 12) If necessary, remove bolts (29), washers (30) and stop (7). Tools and consumable materials - Grease (TB 04-004A) - Loctite (TB 08-903) - Adhesive (TB 08-907) - Cleaning agent (TB 11-003) - Lintfree clean cloths B. Procedure 1) Inspect the parts for correct condition, replace if necessary. 2) Clean the parts with linifree clean cloths and cleaning agent (TB 11-003). 3) Inspect anti-skid coating of footstep (20) [21] for correct condition. Replace it if necessary. 4) If removed, install stop (7) with washers (30) and bolts (29). 5) If removed, install support (3) [4]. a) Inspect buffer (31) for condition and attachment.
