PROPELLER DEICING
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL
The propeller deicing system is a part of ice protection (option) and is a means of protection for the propeller blades in case of unforeseen icing conditions.
The system consists of :
- the propeller special rear flange,
- the ring and propeller nozzles,
- the tube and hose.
The system also uses :
- the tank,
- the pump,
- the control box.
For the description of this components, refer to 30-10-00.
2. LOCATION (Figure 1)
COMPONENT QTY AREA ACCESS DOOR REFERENCE
Propeller special rear flange 1 110 111 61-10-00
Tube and hose 2 100 121,131 30-60-00
Ring and propeller nozzles 3 or 4 110 111 61-10-00

3. DESCRIPTION
A. Propeller special rear flange
The propeller rear flange is equipped with a ring which receives and distributes deicing fluid through propeller nozzles.
B. Ring and propeller nozzles
The ring nozzle, attached to the powerplant, is supplied by a tube and distributes deicing fluid to the propeller rear flange ring.
The propeller nozzles, attached to the rear flange and/or hub diffuse deicing fluid on each propeller blade shank.
C. Tube and hose
A hose connects bulkhead union, at firewall side, to a tube which routes along the powerplant up to ring nozzle.

4. OPERATION
The deicing system is based on ejection of deicing fluid on each propeller blade leading edge. This deicing fluid ejection is provided by a pump which sucks the fluid in the tank and displaces it into the deicing ring of the propeller rear flange. Through the centrifugal force, the deicing fluid is sent to the leading edge of the propeller blades through two (two-blade propeller) or three (three-blade propeller) nozzles which are attached to the rear flange and/or hub. The fluid is guided on the blade leading edge by grooved rubber strips which cover 1 / 3 of the blade length from the root.
