Key Points
.
GA is the largest aviation sector, both nationally in the UK and in the world.

.
GA is a key form of transport, whether for business, safety operations or for leisure purposes, and contributes to the national economy.

.
GA is the least heard-of and least understood aviation element. This lack of public awareness is evidence that GA causes very little concern or disturbance to the community.

.
GA must have realistic access to airspace and to airports.

.
GA must not be faced with excessive charges, e.g requirements for avionics that are primarily for the benefit of the commercial air transport sector. This amounts to GA subsidising the airline industry.

.
GA is the prime supplier of pilots for the commercial operating industry. As the industry expands, this demand will grow. A shortage of pilots could lead to reduced operations, lowered income for operators and for airports and a drop in demand for new aircraft and equipment.

.
GA calls for a national policy which would unify decision making at all levels.

GA is a legitimate activity. Those who fly for recreation and pleasure deserve as much consideration as those who follow any other sport.

So why General Aviation? Because it benefits us all!
It benefits communities, the economy, schools, the public, the airlines, airports and the social welfare of your district.
This booklet has been sponsored and produced by the General Aviation Awareness Council, which is a national consortium of associations and other bodies that understand the significance of GA to the entire aviation industry and to the whole community. Further copies are available; single copies are free, but for a larger supply a donation towards costs would be appreciated.
With contributions from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the British Gliding Association, the British Helicopter Advisory Board, the General Aviation Manufacturers and Traders Association and the Popular Flying Association, this booklet has been compiled and edited by David Ogilvy OBE FRAeS, Chairman GAAC, to whom comments should be addressed at 50a Cambridge Street, London SW1V 4QQ.
